James Stokes account book, 1832-1839.

Journal of accounts for general stores at Harrisonburg, Catahoula Parish; Boeuf Prairie, Franklin Parish; and Columbia, Caldwell Parish, La. Journal entries show names of buyers; purchases of tobacco, hardware items, soap, cloth, needle and thread, and various dry goods and sundries; and the price paid for each item. Pasted into the front pages of the volume are clippings of newspaper stories pertaining to musical performances and performers; scientific subjects; and humorous curiosities. Many of the clippings feature poems and lyrics to popular songs.
